EasyJet launches London-Tel Aviv route
Nov 10, 2009

The new service which will work six day a week is expected to fly 100,000 passengers a year

Flying cheaply from the UK to Israel got a lot easier after easyJet launched on Monday (November 2) their new, six-day a week service between London Luton and Tel Aviv.

EasyJet, Europe’s leading low-fares airline, celebrates last week the launch of the London Luton – Tel Aviv route in the Ben Gurion Airport with the British Ambassador to Israel H.E. Tom Phillips, the company’s top officials and the first 171 passengers arriving on the first flight from London to Tel Aviv.

easyJet is the first low-fares airline to operate between London and Tel Aviv, and with prices from just £71.99 one way, easyJet fares are half that of traditional airlines operating the route. Giving travelers the opportunity to experience this historic destination and explore the chic and unique cosmopolitan city of Tel Aviv.

With 100,000 passengers expectedfor the first year, easyJet is operating a brand new Airbus A320 and will be flying 6 days a week (excluding Friday’s). Paul Simmons, UK Regional General Manager said: “As the only low fares airline for the London – Tel Aviv route, easyJet offers great opportunities to both British and Israeli travellers. With expected 100,000 passengers a year easyJet will provide a significant contribution to the Israeli tourism industry”.

Sophie Dekkers, UK Commercial Manager said: “With such competitive fares easyJet’s entry to the Israeli market will open a window for many Israelis to discover London and make London more accessible to both business and leisure travelers.”

British Ambassador to Israel H.E. Tom Phillips said: “I am delighted to be at Ben Gurion Airport today to welcome easyJet’s inaugural flight to Tel Aviv. easyJet’s entry into the exciting Israeli market is one that will benefit both our economies and is a further welcome example of the many and varied people and business links between our two nations”.

According to a separate press release on the easyJet website, the route is also set to offer kosher food, which like other food on their flights, comes at an additional charge.

The airline currently operates 182 aircraft on 445 routes, to 112 airports in 28 countries. It carried over 44 million passengers in the past 12 months.
