Airports Authority: October 2009 cargo figures show an increase of 4.92%

Since the beginning of the year the airport handled 220,176 tons a drop of 21.53%compared to the parallel period - 280,608 tons
 
Israel Airports Authority published last week its October's cargo traffic figures through Ben Gurion Airport.
 
During October Ben Gurion airport handled 23,944 tons, anincrease of 4.92%, compared to the parallel period last year during which 22,820 tons were handled. Since the beginning of the year (January – October) the airport handled 220,176 tons a drop of 21.53%compared to the parallel period (280,608  tons).
 
The Airport Authority which handles inbound and outbound cargo flown by passenger aircraft handled 13,483tons of cargo through October  ( import 5,176 tons and export 8,603  tons) an increase of 35.58%  compared to the parallel (9,944tons, import amounted to 4,073  tons &  export amounted to5,871 tons).
 
Air cargo carriers which operate 747 freighters continued to experience a drop in demand for cargo. In October, pure cargo carriers handled a total of 10,461tons out which5,191  were imported and 5,270 tons were exported, a drop of 18.7% compared to the parallel (12,876  tons-6,650  tons imported & 6,226 tons exported ).
 
El Al handled throughout October 3,360 tons, a drop of 4.4% compared to the parallel (3,515 tons). El Al's market share improved during October from 27.3% last October to 32.1%.
 
During January – October 2009 El Al carried a total of 34,978 tons, a drop of 34% compared to the parallel (53,044  tons).
 
C.A.L Cargo Air Lines handled during same period 3,736 tons of cargo, a drop of 30% compared to the parallel month (5,354 tons). The company's market share has been stable at 36% of total cargo moved by freighters in and out of Israel.
 
During January – October 2009 C.A.L handled 42,013 tons, a drop of 30% compared to the parallel (60,111 tons).
