The carrier is renewing its fleet, replacing the departed planes with a new 737-900 ER
El Al Israel Airlines Ltd. announced last week that it is taking its old Boeing 757s airliners out of service.
The 757 fleet will be replaced with the new Boeing 737-900 ER planes in 2013. El Al will receive the first two of six Boeing 737-900 ER (extended range) airliners by the end of 2013. The airline launched Boeing 757 service in November 1987.
El Al CEO Elyezer Shkedy, "This is part of El Al's strategy to lower the age of its fleet and reduce the number of models. We therefore decided to take out of service old Boeing 757 and 767-200 planes. We are discussing with Boeing and Airbus various options for renewing our fleet of wide-bodied airliners."
At present, there are 2 B757s in the El Al Israel fleet. This plane has a total seating capacity of 178 passengers in a two class layout. This plane cruises at a speed of 873mph and has a range of 6100 miles.
El Al's Boeing 757-200 is used on domestic routes as well as on flights to Egypt and Europe. El Al Final Boeing 757 Service took place on 26NOV12 from Ben Gurion International Airport to Paris.
