BYD has announced that it will focus on cars featuring hybrids and electric engines cars

Chinese vehicle manufacturer BYD Auto (Build Your Dreams) released last week an announcement, at the Geneva Motor Show, indicating it intends to launch sales of its cars in Israel starting in 2011. BYD cars that will be marketed in Israel will comply with Euro 5 emissions standards.

BYD has announced that it will focus on cars featuring "new-energy" engines, such as hybrids and electric cars.

Based out of Shenzen, Guangdong Province in China, BYD is a car manufacturer that has been in business since 2003. BYD Auto is a division of BYD Co Ltd. which is a maker of rechargeable batteries and mobile phone components. The auto manufacturing division of BYD was created after BYD acquired Tsinchuan Automobile Company.

BYD was Chinas sixth-biggest car manufacturer by sales last year. BYD, 10% owned by Buffetts Omaha, Nebraska-based Berkshire Hathaway Inc, introduced a plug-in hybrid car in December 2008 and said in January it will sell an electric car in the US this year. BYD is expected to manufacture almost 800,000 cars this year.
