The Consumer Price Index measures changes in the prices paid by consumers for a basket of goods and services.
According to the CBS, most categories of goods and services fell in price in January, lead by shoes and clothing, down 7.7%, and fresh fruits down 1.3%, housing services down 0.9%, and processed food down 0.8%.
Furniture, household equipment and maintenance -0.6%. Food and non-alcoholic beverages -0.4%.
Recreation and culture -0.4%. Against this, prices rose for fresh vegetables up 3.9%, public transport up 3.4% and cigarettes up 1.5%. The CBS noted that the index excluding fruit and vegetables fell by 0.7%, the index excluding housing fell by 0.6%, as did the index excluding energy.
