Israel Railways lays new tracks for high-speed Jerusalem-Tel Aviv train

Israel Railways reached a major landmark in the construction of the high-speed railway to Jerusalem - the first line to run on electricity.

The long-planned and long-delayed high-speed train between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem is getting closer Israel Railways has begun to lay tracks for the western section of the line in the Ayalon Valley, west of Jerusalem.

The target date for launching passenger train on the new line is January 2018, 17 years after construction began. The project is costing approximately NIS 7 billion ($2.6 billion) including the construction of two 56-kilometer tracks from Tel Aviv’s HaHagana Station to the entrance of Jerusalem, near the International Convention Center, as well as five tunnels - totaling 20 kilometers - and eight bridges.
