It is understood that the Shipyards will be allowed in the first stage to handle and store up to 300,000 tons of refined sugar a year
 
Following the approval made three months ago by the Israel Ports board of directors, Israel Shipyards will shortly start operating Israel's first non-governmental port.
 
The company is due to submit its proposed terms of operations to Transport Minister Shaul Mofaz and the acting Finance Minister.
 
Once the terms approved by the ministries the company will be able to begin work.
 
It is understood that the Shipyards will be allowed in the first stage to handle and store up to 300,000 tons of refined sugar a year.
