Turkish operator U.N. Ro-Ro İşletmeleri A.Ş. introduced Israel Haifa line which will be working along with Iskenderun-Damietta voyages. The first stopover to Haifa Terminal commenced with the voyage from Iskenderun departing on 11 January 2014.
The Israeli land corridor provides the cheapest, the quickest, the shortest and the safest route for regional land traffic of commercial goods. As a result of the civil war in Syria, which used to be the main land-bridge between Turkey and the Middle East, this route has gained in strategic and commercial importance.
Israel is hoping that it can market the Haifa-Jordan route not only as a stopgap, but as an economically viable and efficient route that shipping companies will choose regardless of the Syrian conflict.
