Yehuda Rotem Zim Lines director general between 1973 –1984 died last week at the age of 87.

Rotem began working for Zim lines in the early 70's, a period in which ZIM moved boldly into container shipping, becoming one of the first carriers to adopt the technology that has come to dominate the modern era.

Six specialized container ships were ordered together with containers and shore equipment.

In 1972, under the leadership of Kashti ZIM introduced its pioneering ZCS – Zim Container Service three-continent line, with ships making a scheduled, 100-day journey that originated in Israel and sailed to ports of call in the Far East, Asia, America and Europe.

After Kashti's untimely death, Yehuda Rotem took over as president, and continued the drive toward containerization, establishing other container lines.
